Lungi is a town by the sea in the Port Loko District, in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone. It is about 40 miles (or 64 kilometres) north of the main town, Port Loko. In 2004, around 4,185 people lived there.
Lungi is most famous for its airport, called Freetown International Airport. This is the airport people use when flying in and out of Sierra Leone. The sea lies between Lungi and Freetown, the capital city of Sierra Leone.
In May 2025, the government of Sierra Leone announced plans to turn Lungi into a city. This site was created to share updates about that exciting development.
